Kanbo
Cambo-les-Bains
Located in the province of Labourd, Cambo-les-Bains, or Kanbo to the Basques, is a garden city that beautifully combines nature and architecture. The charm of this small Basque town lies in its contrasting neighborhoods, offering magnificent views of the mountains and the Nive Valley.
A spa and climatic health resort, Cambo has been known since Antiquity for the properties of its waters. Its reputation exploded in the 19th century with the popularity of thermal baths and the visit of numerous personalities of the era, including Empress Eugénie, Napoleon III and King Edward VII.
Today, the peaceful village of 6,700 inhabitants, now France’s 6th-largest spa destination, is the ideal starting point for exploring the Basque country, enjoying nature and discovering Basque traditions and culture.
Did you know?
It wasn’t until 1897, in line with the town’s role as a spa and health resort, that the name was changed to Cambo-les-Bains. Before that, it was known as Sansa or Sance, after the noble house of Assantza.
